Data Scientist

About the role

Cat Digital, the digital and technology arm of Caterpillar Inc., is looking for a Data Scientist to join its newly forming presence in Kosice, Slovakia. The role supports data-driven product development, helps expand revenue and the customer base by improving dealer business operations and product utilization, and works directly with Slovakia-based engineering leadership and Cat Digital IT in the US.

Key responsibilities

• Perform analytical tasks on large volumes of data to support data-driven business decisions and product development
• Direct data gathering, data mining and data processing, and create appropriate data models
• Promote and implement semantic data capabilities using natural language processing, text analysis and machine learning
• Define requirements and scope of data analyses and report business insights to management with data visualization
• Evaluate and research data model optimization and algorithms to improve accuracy

Required profile

• Solid knowledge of applying Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas) to business challenges
• Experience with machine learning techniques such as clustering, logistic regression, random forests, SVM or neural networks
• Strong knowledge of the end-to-end data lifecycle, data governance, metadata management, data quality, data modeling and data architecture
• Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly to audiences of different technical levels
• Analytical thinking and knowledge of data management systems

Required skills

• AWS services, cloud ELT/ETL, Snowflake and SQL
• Traditional data warehouses, relational databases, operational data stores, BI reporting, and modern concepts such as data fabrics, data mesh and data lakehouse
• Query and database access tools
