Software Engineer - Generative AI

About the role

Cat Digital, the digital and technology arm of Caterpillar Inc., is opening a new branch in Slovakia and is hiring a Generative AI Engineer. You will help build and grow the team's digital product development, working with experienced engineers, data scientists and business stakeholders on scalable AI-powered applications and services. The position reports directly to Slovakia-based engineering leadership and the US-based Cat Digital IT teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Generative AI solutions in Python, using object-oriented programming principles
• Build, test and deploy AI applications and services in cloud environments
• Support CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions or similar tools
• Deploy and maintain solutions on AWS with infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation)
• Use GenAI frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel and CrewAI, and apply LLM concepts and prompt engineering
• Develop APIs and services with FastAPI
• Contribute to AI workflows and data pipelines with Apache Airflow, and take part in code reviews and testing
• Document technical solutions and share knowledge across the team

Required profile

• Knowledge of software development practices and tools, and of the software development life cycle and agile methods
• Experience developing applications in Python and with object-oriented programming
• Familiarity with REST APIs and backend frameworks such as FastAPI
• Interest in Generative AI, LLMs and prompt engineering
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, able to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment

Required skills

• Preferred: Python frameworks such as FastAPI, LangChain, LangGraph
• Preferred: Git, CI/CD with GitHub Actions, AWS services (SageMaker Studio, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS), CloudFormation, Apache Airflow
• Preferred: GenAI patterns such as RAG, agent-based workflows and prompt engineering

• Gross pay of 3,000+ euros per month (base minimum 32,976 euros per year)
