Senior Application Engineer - AI & Java Engineering (Hybrid)

About the role

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is looking for an experienced Senior Application Engineer in Bratislava to join its Java and AI engineering team. You will develop and maintain in-house insurance platforms built mainly with Java and Spring Boot, and increasingly use AI to improve products and engineering quality. The role is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Develop business features and AI-enabled solutions used by large user communities
• Design and integrate AI capabilities into enterprise applications, combining modern AI platforms with established Java systems
• Use AI-driven workflows across the SDLC, including AI-assisted development, testing, code review and documentation
• Review and approve pull requests and enforce consistency, maintainability, security and quality standards
• Work with requirements engineers, QA specialists, product owners and other application engineers
• Create architecture diagrams and technical designs, and integrate messaging systems, BPMN workflows, logging, telemetry and AI platforms
• Experiment with emerging technologies and Generative AI, turning relevant innovations into practical engineering solutions

Required profile

• Expert knowledge of Java and Spring Boot across the full software delivery lifecycle
• Hands-on experience building or integrating AI-enabled solutions and using AI-driven development workflows
• Experience with Microsoft Foundry or Palantir Foundry for developing, integrating or operating AI solutions
• Previous public cloud experience, particularly with Microsoft Azure
• Comfort working with large, established codebases

Nice to have

• CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Docker and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with insurance domain concepts
• Experience mentoring junior developers

What we offer

• Base salary in Slovakia of 3,800 to 6,300 EUR per month for a full-time role, adjusted to the candidate's profile
