Data and Analytics Associate

About the role

Swiss Re is looking for an early-career data and analytics associate in Bratislava to join the Enabling Advanced Analytics team, which supports Underwriting Operations, Technical Accounting and Claims Operations, Claims Management, In-force Management and Client Audit. You will work with experienced data colleagues, IT teams and business stakeholders, turning analytics, machine learning and AI into practical business solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Translate business needs into clearly defined analytical problems and develop data-driven solutions with guidance from senior team members.
• Apply statistical analysis, machine learning, data mining and data visualisation to generate business insights.
• Contribute to end-to-end data science initiatives, from exploratory analysis and proof of concept to production deployment.
• Support the development of the analytics and AI platform and identify data gaps to recommend improvements to data collection.
• Collaborate with business and IT teams to build practical solutions with measurable impact.

Required profile

• A good foundation in statistics and probability.
• Curious, analytical and motivated to learn; no need to be an expert in everything from day one.
• Clear communication, able to explain technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Comfortable working with ambiguity, in a matrix organisation and with stakeholders without formal authority.

Required skills

• Classical machine learning: linear and logistic regression, decision trees, random forests, XGBoost or LightGBM, k-means and hierarchical clustering, PCA.
• Feature engineering, hyperparameter tuning and model evaluation.
• Natural language processing and applied generative AI (large language models, prompt engineering, RAG).
• Proficiency in Python; working knowledge of Spark or PySpark and ML/AI libraries.
• Advantageous: SQL, Power BI, and previous exposure to insurance or reinsurance.

What we offer

• Base salary in Slovakia of EUR 1,600 to 2,600 per month for a full-time role, depending on profile and requirements.
