Platform & DevOps Lead (Hybrid)

About the role

Swiss Re is looking for a hands-on Platform & DevOps Lead in Bratislava, working on SPIRE, a business-critical product used by non-life reserving actuaries to calculate required reserves. The Platform team builds and maintains the infrastructure for SPIRE and supports seven software development teams. The team currently has three members and will grow to four, plus you as lead; all four report directly to you. The role combines people management and technical leadership with hands-on engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Build, maintain and improve reliable infrastructure together with the team, and help shape and implement the next steps for the SPIRE platform.
• Work on priorities such as improving the release process, migrating to a new observability platform and a new CI/CD pipeline library, and moving from team-managed infrastructure to centrally provisioned solutions across Kubernetes, RabbitMQ, Azure SQL and Redis.
• Turn priorities into practical plans and drive their implementation, ensuring compliance with Swiss Re's centrally defined rules and guidelines.
• Lead a growing team of four engineers, reporting directly to you.

Required profile

• Strong software development background and enjoyment of leading a team while staying actively involved in engineering.
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code, release processes, trunk-based development, CI/CD, observability, the SDLC and agile ways of working.
• Familiarity with messaging middleware such as Kafka, RabbitMQ or Azure Service Bus.
• Ability to navigate an existing technical environment, stay calm when systems fail and focus on priorities in a noisy environment.
• Clear communicator who establishes effective channels across teams and takes ownership of the topics they lead.

Experience with every tool is not required; a strong engineering foundation and willingness to learn is enough. For Slovakia, the base salary range is 3,800 to 6,300 EUR per month for a full-time role, plus a performance-based variable component and global and location-specific benefits.
