Special Transport Type Professional (SPTR) – Rail Tank Car Fleet Management

About the role

Covestro's Supply Chain Integrated Logistics unit is looking for a Special Transport Type Professional (SPTR) to manage its fleet of rail tank cars and tank containers. The role covers monitoring rail transports, verifying invoices, coordinating repairs and managing filling orders across the three NRW sites.

Key responsibilities

• Rail operations: monitor rail transports after checkout and in various systems, contact railway undertakings to validate mitigation measures, coordinate with order management colleagues, identify network issues and propose improvements
• Invoice verification for external transports and for shunting in the NRW Chemparks, and consolidate data from several sources (Excel, Power BI) to automate validation as much as possible
• Railcar maintenance and repair: arrange mobile and workshop repairs, record work in the system and use the data to drive optimization
• Filling management: manage rail and truck transport orders for a material group across the three NRW sites, balancing tank capacities, empty railcar capacities, available orders and filling capacities, and coordinate with dispatching and marketing

Required profile

• University, bachelor's degree or high school diploma, preferably in logistics, business administration or a related field
• Very good written and spoken English; German is an advantage
• Experience in fleet management of trucks, tank containers, railcars or box trailers is an advantage
• Forwarding agent or comparable qualifications with relevant experience are highly appreciated
• Knowledge of contract management, invoice verification and international tank container regulations (IMDG, ADR, RID) is a big plus

Required skills

• MS Office (Excel, Word)
• SAP S/4HANA MM and SAP TM, or other logistics software
• Understanding of transportation management principles and ability to improve logistics processes
