Senior Application DBA – Database Reliability Engineer

About the role

Erste Digital is looking for a Senior Application DBA to join the Tribe SRE team and drive performance, reliability and scalability of database‑backed applications. This role sits at the intersection of application engineering, DevOps and database engineering, focusing on real user workloads rather than pure infrastructure tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and optimise real application workloads, linking user‑facing performance issues to database causes.
• Improve database performance for critical application flows, addressing inefficient execution plans, locking, contention and excessive round‑trips.
• Define and track service level indicators (SLIs) and objectives (SLOs) for latency, error rates, throughput and saturation.
• Design monitoring around user experience, critical flows and business transactions.
• Partner with engineering teams to introduce query/index reviews, migration checklists and performance‑testing gates.
• Enable developers through automation, self‑service capabilities and guidance on database best practices.

Required profile

• Strong recent experience as an Oracle DBA or Database Engineer, with exposure to PostgreSQL.
• Deep knowledge of SQL performance tuning, execution plans, AWR, ASH, indexing strategies and transaction behaviour.
• Proven ability to optimise application workloads and improve latency, throughput and stability of database‑backed services.
• Experience in DevOps or platform engineering environments, including CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
• Fluent English; German is a plus.
