Medical Science Liaison, Rare Diseases (Slovakia)

About the role

AstraZeneca is hiring a field-based Medical Science Liaison for its Rare Diseases programme in Slovakia. The role combines scientific and medical engagement with projects that address challenges in rare disease patient pathways, such as disease recognition, diagnosis and patient identification. It works with healthcare professionals and scientific experts to improve understanding of rare diseases.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, lead and deliver field-based medical projects and initiatives, taking ownership from planning through implementation, stakeholder engagement and evaluation.
• Focus on disease recognition, earlier diagnosis, patient identification and improved referral pathways.
• Identify diagnostic gaps, delays and barriers that prevent patients from reaching specialist care.
• Build and maintain scientific relationships with key external experts, healthcare professionals, multidisciplinary teams and specialists across disciplines.
• Understand the local healthcare system, diagnostic environment, referral structures and the roles of healthcare professionals and institutions.
• Support the identification of potential investigators and clinical research centres, and provide scientific information on externally sponsored research and real-world evidence programmes.

Required profile

• University degree in a scientific discipline or relevant clinical qualification, combined with appropriate scientific experience.
• Strong understanding of clinical practice, patient pathways and the healthcare environment.
• Ability to engage with healthcare professionals across specialities and discuss complex scientific and clinical information with varied audiences.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build credible relationships and manage multiple internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong project management skills and ability to work in a cross-functional environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel according to the geographical requirements of the role.
