Engineering Manager - NatCat

About the role

The NatCat Engineering Manager leads the engineering organization responsible for delivering and operating critical Natural Catastrophe (NatCat) platforms and systems. The role combines engineering leadership, people management, technical strategy and operational accountability, ensuring reliable, scalable and business-aligned technology solutions. Applications run on Azure and sit at the core of natural catastrophe simulation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop software engineers, platform engineers and technical specialists, and run performance, hiring, succession planning and talent management.
• Create a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Define the technology roadmap for NatCat platforms and guide architectural decisions aligned with enterprise standards.
• Promote engineering best practices and drive modernization of platform scalability, resiliency and maintainability.
• Partner with Product Owners, Architects, Business Analysts and business stakeholders to turn strategy into executable roadmaps.
• Manage priorities, dependencies, capacity planning and resource allocation, and ensure predictable, transparent delivery.

Required profile

• Significant experience in software engineering, platform engineering or technology delivery, with success managing large-scale business-critical applications.
• Experience leading engineering teams in complex enterprise environments and within large-scale agile delivery models.
• Strong people leadership, coaching and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to lead through ambiguity and organizational change.

Required skills

• Distributed systems, cloud platforms and enterprise architecture.
• Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, observability, automation and platform engineering.
• Software development background, preferably in Java.
• Experience with data-intensive and analytics-driven applications is advantageous.

What we offer

• Base salary in Slovakia of EUR 3,800 to 6,300 per month for a full-time role, plus a performance-based variable component.
