Digital Protections Application Design Senior Engineer

About the role

The Digital Protections Application Design Senior Engineer will join Schneider Electric’s Regional Execution Platform in Bratislava. The role focuses on designing, programming and commissioning IED protection parameters for complex international projects across Europe and South America, with extensive travel and occasional short‑notice mobilisations.

Key responsibilities

• Define the optimal SE IED type (VAMP, SEPAM, MICOM, EASERGY, TESYS) to meet client protection plans.
• Design and implement LV/MV protection settings, complex logic functions and automatic transfer logic (ATS) inside IEDs.
• Develop communication descriptions (CID files) and configure IP/Ethernet networks for SCADA integration.
• Participate in factory and site testing of protection relays, FATs, and commissioning activities.
• Support tender processes, estimate man‑hours and produce technical reports for clients and internal teams.
• Collaborate with project managers, design leaders, power system engineers and the GCP Digital Integration team.

Required profile

• EU passport holder; willingness to relocate to Slovakia if residing outside the EU.
• Permanent employment status with Schneider Electric.
• Readiness for up to 50% international travel and occasional short‑notice deployments.
• Proven experience in IED protection design and commissioning for large‑scale projects.

Required skills

• SE IED portfolio expertise (VAMP, SEPAM, MICOM, EASERGY, TESYS).
• Communication protocols: IEC61850, Modbus, OPC, Profibus, DNP3, IEC103.
• Power metering relays programming.
• GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Event) signal handling.
• ANSI/IEEE standard device function numbers.
• LV/MV protection setting configuration.
• Automatic Transfer Logic (ATS) development.
• CID file creation and IP/Ethernet network design.
