Senior Software Engineer

About the role

FREQUENTIS Solutions & Services (FSS) is looking for an experienced Technical Lead to strengthen its product team developing safety‑critical voice communication and information systems for air traffic management, public safety and transport. The role will act as the technical backbone of a cross‑functional, self‑organising team, shaping architecture and delivering high‑quality C++ solutions while working fully remote with occasional onsite meetings in Bratislava or Vienna.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical direction of services, balancing long‑term architecture with delivery needs.
• Make architectural decisions, evaluate trade‑offs (e.g., consistency vs. availability) and ensure alignment across distributed teams.
• Review code and designs to maintain high quality and prevent structural issues.
• Mentor engineers, support their growth and guide decision‑making.
• Own domain end‑to‑end, staying close to implementation details and contributing hands‑on critical components in modern C++.
• Translate business requirements into clear technical solutions within an agile setup.

Required profile

• University degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Information Technology, Telecommunications or related field.
• Advanced English proficiency (C1).
• Strong technical leadership, pragmatic mindset and excellent problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in modern C++ (C++17, C++23), including template metaprogramming and multiple paradigms.
• Design and architecture of distributed, micro‑service and event‑driven systems.
• Asynchronous programming, real‑time communication and protocol design.
• API design, JSON Schema versioning, and data ownership concepts.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MariaDB/MySQL, SQLite.
• Build systems (CMake), CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or similar), containerisation (Docker, Podman/Buildah).
• Testing frameworks (Google Test), static analysis, observability tools (OpenTelemetry).
