Global Category Manager – Direct Materials

About the role

The Global Category Manager drives procurement strategy for direct manufacturing materials at the Business Group level. This position focuses on cost optimisation, supplier portfolio management and strategic contract negotiation for items such as connectors, cables and mechanical components.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and execute global procurement strategies for assigned direct‑materials categories.
• Draft, negotiate and manage supplier contracts, including framework, quality‑assurance and development agreements.
• Analyse cost structures, benchmark prices and identify cost‑reduction opportunities.
• Plan, prepare and run tenders, and manage the full tender lifecycle.
• Collect and prepare demand forecasts for global demand planning.
• Proactively manage risks within the category and maintain a balanced supplier portfolio.
• Handle supplier escalations and maintain strong supplier relationships.

Required profile

• Upper‑intermediate English (B2) proficiency; German is a plus.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.
• Strong strategic procurement and category‑management competence.
• Solid understanding of supply‑chain processes, cost structures and resource planning.
• Excellent analytical thinking, solution orientation and stress resilience.
• High ethical standards, proactive attitude and strong communication skills.
