About the role
As part of onsemi’s GaN division, the Principal Application Engineer will lead development and promotion of 40‑V to 1200‑V GaN devices across key applications, delivering evaluation boards, reference designs and technical collateral.
Key responsibilities
- Execute comprehensive product validation based on benchmark analysis.
- Identify real system needs through deeper engagement with customers.
- Design, bring up, and validate power electronic hardware prototypes.
- Drive electrical, thermal, EMI, and reliability debugging and root‑cause analysis.
- Promote, design‑in and validate GaN solutions into customer systems.
- Support marketing with roadmap creation and product definitions.
- Develop schematics and layouts for reference designs and customer‑specific solutions.
- Create documentation and collateral such as analysis reports, application notes, white papers, user manuals and datasheets.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across projects.
Required profile
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics.
- 10+ years of experience in power electronics and/or wide‑bandgap semiconductor applications.
- Ability to set up and run simulations using Spice, Plecs, Simplis, etc.
- Strong hands‑on experience and PCB‑level design and debugging skills.
- Experience in product definition is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of AC‑DC power supplies, DC‑DC stages, AI servers, motor drives, renewable energy systems.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
- Self‑motivated, able to work in a global team and manage cross‑functional groups without direct reports.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
