ML/AI Engineer

About the role

Piano is looking for an ML/AI Engineer to turn real‑world data into product‑ready AI solutions. You will join the Data Science team and work across the full ML lifecycle, from prototyping to production, on a variety of Piano products.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build agent systems that enable tool calling, multi‑step orchestration, memory management and safe actions on customer data.
• Implement guardrails and human‑in‑the‑loop patterns so agents can act on behalf of customers.
• Maintain and improve existing ML pipelines, model training workflows and inference services for stability and performance.
• Develop classical ML models for personalization and targeting.
• Investigate and resolve production issues by analysing logs, model inputs/outputs and shipping enhancements.
• Collaborate with data scientists, product managers and other engineering teams to deliver ML/AI features.

Required profile

• Strong focus on feeding AI systems the right information and validating their outputs.
• Ability to optimise for quality, cost and latency in production environments.
• Passion for solving complex technical challenges at scale.

Required skills

• Experience with LLM‑based classification and agentic AI systems.
• Hands‑on experience building and operating ML pipelines and inference services.
• Knowledge of classical machine‑learning models for personalization and targeting.
