Lead Data Engineer with Google Cloud GCP

About the role

Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions Slovakia is hiring a Lead Data Engineer to manage and oversee the entire data engineering process, from data acquisition to data analysis. You will design, build and maintain the data infrastructure for data management and analysis, work closely with data scientists, analysts and other stakeholders, and mentor and lead a team of data engineers. The team is newly formed and co-located, working on a greenfield data platform built from the ground up.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines using GCP services such as BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Storage and Cloud SQL.
• Develop and optimise ETL/ELT workflows for transforming and loading large datasets.
• Process and analyse data with SQL and Python (PySpark, Pandas, NumPy).
• Build and maintain distributed data processing solutions using Spark and data parallelism.
• Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to understand data requirements and deliver reliable solutions.
• Implement security best practices, including role-based access control, IAM policies and data encryption.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise system performance, and contribute to data architecture and data modelling (e.g. star and snowflake schemas).
• Support version control and CI/CD pipelines (Git-based workflows).
• Mentor and guide junior data engineers.

Required profile

• Experience in data engineering and data pipeline development.
• Analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with cross-functional collaboration and innovation.
• Team management, project management and agile methodology knowledge.
• Advanced English (C1); German is an advantage.
