Senior Data Specialist - BI Data Engineering

About the role

Cat Digital, the digital and technology arm of Caterpillar Inc., is looking for a Senior Data Specialist to join its BI Data Engineering team in Kosice, Slovakia. The role helps transform data into actionable insights through modern cloud-based data engineering and analytics solutions, supporting the foundational data platforms behind digital products, reporting, analytics and decision-making.

Key responsibilities

• Build and support reporting, analytics and semantic data solutions using Power BI
• Design, build, maintain and troubleshoot analytical data products and data pipelines with Snowflake, SQL, Python and modern development tools
• Improve data quality, consistency and governance across multiple platforms
• Develop documented, repeatable data products and follow coding standards, version control and development workflows (GitHub, VS Code, GitHub Copilot)
• Trace data through source systems, transformation logic and downstream applications to find discrepancies and reporting issues
• Work with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Data Stewards and Analytics teams to turn business needs into scalable technical solutions
• Document data definitions, transformations, technical specifications and lineage, and take part in Agile development and team reviews

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Analytics, Data Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, business intelligence, data analytics or data science
• Ability to explain technical topics clearly and work with both technical and business stakeholders
• Ability to investigate complex data challenges, trace information across systems and report findings
• Adaptability to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment

• Power BI (key part of the day-to-day)

• Python for data processing and automation
• Data pipelines and ETL
• Agile development, version control and tools such as GitHub, VS Code and GitHub Copilot
• Advantageous: Tableau, dbt, semantic data layers, data governance, data quality and master data management
