Senior Automation Engineer – Platform & AI Automation

About the role

Make a difference in the financial life of millions of people by co‑creating the digital future at Erste Digital. You will work on platform and AI automation to enable self‑service infrastructure for engineering teams and improve the reliability of banking services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain automation for infrastructure provisioning, operations and lifecycle management using Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD pipelines and Python.
• Improve infrastructure‑as‑code and configuration‑as‑code practices and manage the DevOps toolchain, including artifact and secrets management.
• Contribute to the Internal Developer Platform strategy, architecture and adoption.
• Build AI‑powered automation solutions, agentic workflows and RAG pipelines that combine internal and external data.
• Drive operational excellence through observability, SLO‑based reliability, incident response and root‑cause analysis.
• Automate runbooks, support post‑mortems and participate in an on‑call rotation.
• Implement secure automation practices such as least‑privilege access, Vault‑based secrets management and AI guardrails.
• Mentor engineers and help establish engineering standards for automation, platform engineering and AI‑enabled solutions.

Required profile

• At least 7 years of experience with Python focused on automation, backend development and AI use cases.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab or GitHub Actions) and with Terraform, Ansible, AWX or Ansible Automation Platform.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift and recent projects using LLMs, agentic workflows and vector databases.
• Linux administration (RHEL), scripting and runtime configuration.
• Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix) and networking fundamentals (TLS, proxies, load balancing).
• Strong understanding of identity, security and reliability concepts, including authentication, authorization, secrets management and high‑availability design.
