Senior Automation Engineer – Platform & AI Automation

About the role

At Erste Digital you will co‑create the digital future of a leading banking group, designing and operating automation that supports millions of customers. You will work on infrastructure provisioning, lifecycle management and AI‑powered workflows to enable self‑service platforms for engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain automation for infrastructure provisioning using Terraform, Ansible, AWX and Python.
• Improve infrastructure‑as‑code, configuration‑as‑code and manage the DevOps toolchain (CI/CD, artifact and secrets management).
• Contribute to the Internal Developer Platform strategy and enable self‑service infrastructure for engineering teams.
• Build AI‑powered automation, agentic workflows and Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines that combine internal and external data.
• Drive operational excellence through observability, SLO‑based reliability, incident response and root‑cause analysis.
• Automate runbooks, support post‑mortems and participate in on‑call rotation.
• Implement secure automation practices including least‑privilege access, Vault‑based secrets management and AI guardrails.
• Mentor engineers and help establish engineering standards for automation and AI‑enabled solutions.

Required profile

• At least 7 years of professional experience with Python focused on automation, backend development and AI use cases.
• Hands‑on experience with Terraform, Ansible (or AWX/Ansible Automation Platform) and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab or GitHub Actions.
• Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift) and Linux administration (RHEL).
• Recent project work designing AI‑powered applications using LLMs, agentic workflows, RAG architectures and vector databases.
• Solid understanding of observability (Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix), networking, security, identity and reliability concepts.
