Lead Software Engineer - Java

About the role

Cat Digital, the digital and technology arm of Caterpillar Inc., is looking for a Lead Software Engineer - Java to join its newly forming presence in Slovakia. You will help establish and grow the team's organization and culture, driving digital product development with high-impact products. The position reports directly to Slovakia-based engineering leadership and Cat Digital IT in the US.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, solve problems, maintain and support software applications built with agile methods
• Write source code for new applications and enhance code for existing ones
• Use automated testing tools for testing and maintenance
• Mentor junior engineers, write structured code, documentation and guides, and identify team growth areas
• Keep up with IT development trends

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising technical teams and contributing to architecture decisions
• Proven experience maintaining high-quality code standards and development best practices
• Technical leadership: guiding engineers, driving technical direction and owning technical decisions
• Experience adopting AI tools and practices in software development, including spec-driven development with AI
• Ability to collaborate across teams and share goals and deliverables

Required skills

• Strong experience developing applications in Java, RESTful APIs and complex SQL queries
• Public cloud deployment and maintenance (AWS or Azure)
• CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
• Monitoring tools (Dynatrace, AppDynamics) and code quality tools (SonarQube, Fortify)
• Agile software development methodology
• Preferred: AWS, React, VS Code, GitHub Copilot
